THE TOWN
Welcome to CASA LEONTYNKA in Torrevieja.
The LEONTYNKA house for 3–4 guests is located in the inner part of town near the pink (healing) lake. The whole area is a protected site (a unique climate with the pink lake). The sun shines here an incredible 330 days a year 😊
Until the 19th century, today’s Torrevieja was just a settlement of fishermen and salt miners. Salt mining kick-started rapid growth in the 19th century. Today the town is developing quickly, mainly thanks to tourism.
Things you might find interesting:
The town currently has 110,000 inhabitants, half of them foreigners – a cosmopolitan MIX of Spaniards, Brits, Norwegians, Danes, Poles, Czechs, Ukrainians and Slovaks.
A major tourist area, the “COSTA BLANCA”, with beautiful sandy beaches in neighbouring La Mata, walks along the lake and train rides to the salt works. See the TRIPS section for more.
There is a private Czech kindergarten and primary school in town
We’re happy to connect you with the local Czech community association, which meets every month
With few exceptions, street parking in Torrevieja is free. Still, when heading into the centre we recommend an underground car park (mind the car’s height with the roof box) or the convenient car park at the port, close to the promenade
Tap water in the house and throughout town is drinkable, so there’s no need to buy bottled water. A filter jug with a fresh cartridge is provided.
Spaniards are very friendly (including our wonderful neighbour). You can get by in English or German here and there – and of course in Spanish, if you speak it 😊
The town invests heavily in its development to attract new visitors. The pace of housing construction is almost shocking compared to Czechia. The regional airport in Elche/Alicante, where you almost certainly landed, handles more passengers a year than Prague’s Václav Havel Airport.
A new part of the harbour is opening to the public
A beautiful promenade stretches for several kilometres along the coast (cafés, restaurants, sea views).
